Don’t rush lunch

Lunch is a break for students during the school day and could even be the best part of someone’s day. After going from class to class, lunch provides an opportunity to debrief and catch up with other classmates. The only setback is that time can run short, which is why lunch should be longer.

Thirty minutes to grab food, sit down, eat and get other things done is not always attainable. Students should not feel rushed or have to compromise their break time. I feel like lunch should be around 45 minutes because there is more time to be productive. In addition, it gives teachers more time to do any planning and eat lunch themselves.

Allowing more time for students and teachers at lunch can also boost the environment at school. There would be a decrease in the waste of food served since students would have plenty of time to finish their food and teachers would have plenty of time to prepare for their next class. Students would also be able to finish their work or attend tutoring with the extra time they have.

Another reason why lunch should be longer is because students can have the opportunity to go off campus for lunch. Not all students want to eat lunch food every day or have the time to pack a lunch every day. Students should be given the option to get lunch from outside and come back promptly. Some people may say a thirty minute lunch is fine as is, however, the extra time can come in handy in multiple different ways.

These are some reasons why lunch should be longer for the benefit of both teachers and students. Students should not have to miss out on opportunities or sacrifice lunch time just because it is too short. Schools should reevaluate their bell schedules and try to implement extra time for lunch.

Lunch is a time to recharge, not rush.
