University of Texas bound senior Tiffany Lam will present her valedictory speech at the Class of 2024 graduation at the MISD Performing Arts Center on May 25, at 9:00 AM.
Lam has worked hard and put in many hours to be in the position she is today.
“Being valedictorian filled me with a great sense of accomplishment,” Lam said. “However, I see this achievement more as a testament to my work ethic rather than my intelligence.”
Throughout high school, Lam has been a part of many extracurricular activities including athletic training, orchestra, UIL, Key Club and Student Council. She also helped introduce a new club this school year, the Formula Project, which revolves around female empowerment. With all of this comes many meetings and a need to prioritize her time.
“The hardest part of keeping my grades up throughout high school was managing my assignments on top of my extracurriculars,” Lam said. “Especially while I was in athletic training, I used any free time I could during practice to cram in studying and last-minute homework.”
Lam has been filled with ambition since the beginning and has pushed herself to be better every day. However, she always had a shoulder to lean on and someone to look up to.
“My academic inspiration would most definitely be my mother,” Lam said. “She used to help me all the time as a kid with my homework, so I learned all my studying habits and dedication from her.”
Like the rest of us, Lam has faced setbacks and challenges throughout her years in school. She has learned to not give up because there are brighter days ahead.
“My definition of failure may be different from everyone else’s, but I still face the disappointment of my personal goals,” Lam said. “The most important lesson in dealing with your failures is using them as an opportunity to fuel your endeavors.”
Lam’s future goals consist of going to college and making the world a better place with the knowledge she continues to acquire.
“I just want to make a positive impact in the world, whether that be through computer science, biology, or some other random degree I might choose,” Lam said.
Lam can not wait for what the future holds for her and is going to take a suitcase of memories with her.
“I plan to apply the general life skills that high school has taught me to my future endeavors,” Lam said. “I may not remember the details of the Kreb Cycle or the case facts of Gideon v. Wainwright, but I will still utilize the perseverance, determination, and independence I developed in my high school years.”
